Dr. Strange Show to Debut on Marvel Day at Sea Disney Cruises

September 21, 2017 By Cruise Mouse Leave a Comment

If you thought a Marvel Day at Sea Disney Cruise would be fantastic, there is even more being added! The day’s entertainment will include a brand-new interactive show with Doctor Strange that invites you to join sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange on a journey of discovery into the world of the Mystic Arts.

Dr Strange Disney Cruise

Through the power of special effects and projections, you will be transported from the Walt Disney Theatre to the New York Sanctum Santorum, the residence of Doctor Strange. As apprentices, they’ll learn how to master the Mystic Arts, create portals to other worlds and cast spells.

Children play a special role in the experience, as Doctor Strange calls upon the young apprentices to learn the fundamentals of the Mystic Arts, and his Master Students lead the kids in training exercises. Each new student of Doctor Strange is awarded a certificate after completion of their mystic arts training.

But this powerful experience isn’t over yet! The students will need to put their new skills to the test when suddenly an epic battle against the Dark Dimension ensues. Doctor Strange calls upon his young apprentices to join forces and summon their practiced powers…

Marvel Day at Sea premieres on select 7- and 8-night Disney Cruise Line sailings from New York this fall (2017), and returns on select 5-night Western Caribbean cruises from Miami in early 2018.

Disney Cruise Fish Extender Gift Exchange

July 6, 2017 By Cruise Mouse Leave a Comment

If you have been on a Disney Cruise, you might wonder what the cute hanging pockets are outside some guest’s staterooms. If you are about to go on a cruise, you need to know all about Fish Extenders and the gift exchanges you can join.

If you have a cruise booked and would like to find other families that are on your sailing, do a search on some of the Disney message boards or on Facebook for your Disney ship and sail date. It is a great way to find other kids the same ages as yours, meet new people, find a group to do a specialized class like wine tasting or learn about the cities you will be visiting. These groups often start a gift exchange group that is so much fun to be a part of. If you want to participate in the Fish Extender group you can sign up with your stateroom number, names of everyone in your family and the ages of your kids.

Outside each Disney stateroom is a cute metal fish to hold notes from the staff or reminder cards for spa or dining reservations. The Fish Extender (or FE) hangs over the fish and becomes a mailbox of sorts for gifts to be delivered. You can make your own or order a custom Fish Extenders on sites like Etsy.

Once you have signed up for the exchange, you can make or purchase small gifts to give to everyone on your list. These gifts can range from magnets for the stateroom doors, pins to trade, or postcards or other mementos from your hometown. We have received wonderful, practical gifts like hand sanitizer, emergency sewing kits, and laundry detergent for onboard washing and fun things like luminaries, streamers for the sail away party, and candy treats.

Gifts can be delivered any time during your cruise. You can add a note explaining the gift or who it is from and; then simply drop off in the Fish Extenders for the staterooms in your group. It is just so much fun to check the pockets throughout the day when you are back at your room! I think the adult enjoy it s much as the kids.

Disney Cruise Line adds to Palo Menu

February 25, 2016 By Cruise Mouse Leave a Comment

Palo chicken

The enticing flavors and rich culinary traditions of Italy take center-stage once again at Palo, the signature adult-exclusive restaurant aboard every Disney Cruise Line ship. New menu items revisit the restaurant’s Italian roots with the addition of regional recipes, authentic ingredients and time-honored techniques.

Paired with sweeping ocean views and an intimate, romantic atmosphere—and perhaps a glass of wine from the restaurant’s extensive reserve wine list—the new offerings expand upon the superlative dining experience and delectable cuisine at Palo.

New Wine Pairing Menu

Culinary connoisseurs seeking an epicurean journey at sea will delight in the Esperienza del Vino wine pairing menu. Featuring six courses, each expertly paired with a glass of wine or spirit, the pairing menu boasts all-new dishes for a fresh take on a guest-favorite experience.

The evening begins with savory coppa (thinly sliced cured pork neck) on dressed fava beans, garnished with sharp pecorino cheese and micro celery. A refreshing Venetian Bellini made with sparkling Prosecco, ripe white peaches and a hint of raspberry is a fitting aperitif.

With appetites whet and palates prepped, four courses follow: gnocchi with nutty cep mushroom sauce; poached white asparagus with smoked anchovies, quail egg and truffle oil; sea bass with spinach and buckwheat. The finale of the savory dishes is beef striploin—aged for 25 days, seared and roasted with rosemary—thinly sliced and served with dressed arugula.

Samples from Italy’s renowned vineyards highlight each course, aptly selected to amplify the senses. In order: Bellavista Franciacorta Cuvee Brut, a rich blend of 30 distinctive wines; dry, flowery Elena Walch Gewurztraminer from the northern province of South Tyrol; La Scolca Gavi dei Gavi Black Label, crisp and acidic with undertones of almond and lime; and full-bodied Antinori Tignanello Marchesi, a potent Tuscan red with notes of spice, fruit, oak, licorice and rosemary.

A decadent denouement comes in the form of creamy mascarpone mousse, enclosed in a delicate white chocolate dome and served atop fluffy rhubarb and grappa sponge cake in a bed of sweet consommé jelly. The dish is elegantly garnished with a floral and fruity flourish, and a soft Alexander Platinum Grappa leaves only satisfied sighs in its wake.

New Dinner Selections

The newest iteration of the Palo menu celebrates the world-renowned cuisine of Italy, the birthplace of international necessities like Parmesan cheese.

A stand-out addition to the dinner selection is a whole roasted chicken, marinated for 24 hours in lemon, sea salt and rosemary. Beautifully presented in a copper serving dish with roasted baby vegetables, asparagus and potatoes, the entree is topped with a Barolo wine reduction typical to the mountainous region of Piedmont in the northwest. Intended for sharing, this dish serves two.

From the seafood selection, a piquant Dover sole is fileted tableside and served with regional staples like capers, anchovies, sundried tomatoes and thyme potatoes. An exquisite Prosecco and black truffle reduction gives new life to classic sea scallops. And, returning to the menu with a new twist, seared ahi tuna steak is prepared with blanched green beans, roasted new potatoes and peppered quail eggs.

Palo Dessert

Sweet endings are a Palo specialty, and the enhanced dessert menu includes a variety of warm, cold, sweet and tangy offerings. These include light, creamy tiramisu—a coffee-infused classic—and a limoncello tart for a refreshing pop of citrus. One thing that hasn’t changed is the signature Palo chocolate soufflé, prepared fresh to-order and served piping hot with luscious vanilla bean and chocolate sauces, plus a scoop of ice cream for good measure.

Reservations are required for all Palo dining experiences and can be booked online or onboard. There is a $30 per person charge for dinner, plus the cost of alcoholic beverages, and the Esperienza del Vino wine pairing experience is an additional $59 per person.

Top 10 Things to Pack for a Disney Cruise

January 20, 2016 By Cruise Mouse Leave a Comment

donald disney cruise

Thinking of a Disney Cruise? You really can’t go wrong with any of the Disney Cruises curretnly offered, however, just forget the traditional packing list of swimsuits and sunscreen! Here is what you should bring to make the most of a magical cruising experience with Disney:

  1. Pirate costumes or gear. On every Disney Cruise, there is a Pirates In the Caribbean deck party. There are games, music, dancing, Mickey Mouse swooping in to save the day. At the end, there are spectacular fireworks. Disney is the only cruise line to do fireworks at sea.
  2. Singles. Pack an envelope of dollar bills to tip your room service waiter. While most room service food, including the fabulous Mickey Ice Cream Bars, is free, you want to tip the server.
  3. A plain pillowcase & Sharpies. Have your kids pick out their favorite color markers, put them in a freezer baggie with a plain pillowcase & drop off at Guest Services on the ship. By the end of your cruise, the pillowcase will be returned to your stateroom autographed by the characters. It is a fun & inexpensive souvenir.
  4. A power strip. Is your family gadget-crazy? The staterooms on the Disney ships are larger than other lines but there are few places to plug things in. Throw a small power strip in your bag for all the things that need to be plugged in.
  5. Reusable cups or mugs. Soda, water, tea & coffee are available on the top deck free of charge but the cups provided are small. Bring along one of your Disney resort mugs or a double walled tumbler so you can have an ice cold drink by the pool or while watching a movie in the onboard theater. Disney shows first run films & some of their classics. We recently saw Wreck It Ralph at a midnight premiere & Frankenweenie while on board.
  6. Highlighters in different colors. Each night, you will find a Personal Navigator in your stateroom detailing the next days’ activities. Have each member of your family highlight their must-do in a different color.  That way you won’t miss a thing!
  7. Formalwear for longer cruises. While Disney doesn’t require people to dress up, it sure is fun! Take advantage of the free photographers who can take awesome family photos. You can purchase pictures but you are not obligated.
  8. A picture of your kids. Once your kids see the amazing kids clubs, you aren’t likely to see them much on your cruise. There are clubs for kids, tweens & teens & even a nursery for the under 3 crowd. With so many activities for the kids, you can enjoy some quiet time by the adult pool or in the entertainment district. Book a meal at the adults only Palo on all four ships or at Remy on the Dream & Fantasy. Read a book without interruption. Take a nap. Hit the amazing spa or fitness center onboard.

  9. Your sense of adventure.  The Disney Cruise Line offers itineraries to the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska & Europe. Take in the local culture or try something new like Salsa dancing in Cozumel or whale watching in Alaska.
  10. A calendar. You can save a lot of money by booking your next cruise while onboard. Once you experience the Disney magic at sea, you won’t be able to wait to do it again!

Disney has announced itineraries through the first part of 2017. For the best rates and availability, book as early as you can. This is an experience you don’t want to miss!

Serenity Bay

January 8, 2015 By Cruise Mouse Leave a Comment

serenity bay

While most people think that a Disney Cruise is for families only, you shouldn’t. Disney goes out of their way on both the ships and on Castaway Cay to provide plenty of adult only areas, entertainment and activities. While most of the photos you see of Castaway Cay are of the overly crowded family beach, there is also a remote stretch of beach where only adults are allowed (18+). Serenity Bay is a fantastic place to spend a day, or more, if you are lucky.

Serenity Bay is located about a mile away from the Castaway Cay family beach, and is a pristine stretch of beach exclusively for adults. Access is either by foot, or a convenient shuttle that runs from the family beach down a deserted air strip to the entrance of Serenity Bay.

So, what is there to do at Serenity Bay?

  • You can soak up the sun or relax in the shade of an umbrella on comfortable lounge chairs or two-person hammocks that dot the beach.
  • Premium private cabanas spoil you with the luxury of a deluxe beach resort.
  • You can enjoy a therapeutic massage at a massage cabana overlooking the ocean or participate in a yoga class on the beach, just steps away from the crystal clear water.
  • There is no need to head back to the family beach for refreshment – a delectable lunch buffet, Bahamian specialty drinks, beer and mixed drinks are served at the nearby Castaway Air Bar.

One note on Serenity Bay. If you plan on renting a tube or float, there is a small shack, The Windsock Hut, where you can rent floats and the like, no need to make the trek back to the family beach. Also saves a bit of embarrassment of carrying your float tubes on the shuttle. If you want to rent snorkel equipment, that will have to be done back near the family beach at either Flippers n Floats or Gil’s Fins and Boats.

Also, while the Castaway Air Bar may look small, the food available there (complimentary) is much better than over by the family beach. They serve fewer people, and usually offer more options, including steak, as well as a wider drink option.

I hope you enjoy Serenity Bay as much as I do, I can’t wait to get back there soon.
